XIAN LIU
Xiao Xian Liu was born in 1963 in Beijing, China.
He arrived in Australia in September 1990 to participate in the First
Sydney International Festival of New Music and Visual Art organised
by Roger Woodward at the Art Gallery of New South Wales. He received
his Bachelor of Visual Arts Honours in Photomedia from Sydney College
of the Arts, The University of Sydney in 1998. He is currently
pursuing his Master of Visual Arts in Photomedia at the Sydney College
of the Arts. Xiao Xian has worked as a professional photographer
since 1985 in Beijing and Australia and has been involved in experimental
and professional filmmaking and television. In 1993 he was commissioned
by the National Library of Australia to create a collection of portraits
of Chinese artists living in Australia. In 1994 Xiao Xian's work
was a part of About Face: Aspects of Australian Portraiture c. 1770-1993
at the National Portrait Gallery, Canberra. In 1997 he was a participant
in a group exhibition entitled In & Out which is travelling
to venues such as Singapore, Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, Hong Kong &
Beijing until 2000. In 1998 he was in the Degree Show 1998
at Sydney College of the Arts and Beyond China at Campbelltown
Bicentennial Art Gallery. Xiao Xian Liu participated in the 1999
Moet & Chandon Touring Exhibition. His work is in several
private collections in addition to the National Gallery and Library
and Art Gallery of New South Wales collections. Xiao Xian Liu
lives and works in Sydney.
